Consorci Besos Tordera
The Besòs Tordera Consortium (CBT) is a local water institution founded in 1988 and made up of 56 entities, of which 52 are municipalities in Barcelonès, Osona, Vallès Occidental and Vallès Oriental, with a population of 2400,000 inhabitants. The other bodies that make it up are the Diputació de Barcelona, the Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona, the Consell Comarcal del Vallès Oriental and the Consortium for Waste Management of the Vallès Oriental. The CBT's lines of action are downstream sanitation - municipal sewers, upstream sanitation - discharge control, collectors, Wastewater Pumping Stations (EBARs) and Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs), the improvement of the river environment –five rivers and a stream in its area: Mogent, Congost, Tenes, Ripoll, Besòs and Caldes stream–, the promotion and environmental education and the support to the consortium entities. Of these 52 municipalities, 39 have delegated to the CBT its functions as administration in matters of sanitation, with an equivalent population of 430000 inhabitants and more than 4000 established industrial establishments. As for the activities of the CBT, the downstream sanitation includes the services of conservation and cleaning of municipal sewers, as well as works of extension and improvement of these facilities. On the other hand, to carry out on-site sanitation, it has 18 WWTPs, almost 300 km of collectors and 45 EBARs.
