About
Efforts to establish veterinary studies in Krakow lasted for many years and during this time people were often asked why it is not possible to study in Krakow this major, not only for animal health, but above all for human health - as prof. dr hab. Eng. Janusz Żmija - Rector of the University of Agriculture (2005-2012).
The stubbornness and determination with which former rectors of the Jagiellonian University, prof. Karol Musioł and UR prof. Janusz Żmija, in order to overcome the difficulties, is admirable - said the current Rector of the UR, prof. dr hab. Eng. Włodzimierz Sady. Thanks to this persistence, on June 8, 2010, under an agreement between the Jagiellonian University and the Agricultural University of Hugo Kołłątaj in Kraków, the University Center of Veterinary Medicine of the Jagiellonian University was established. In this way, Krakow has become the 6th city in Poland where veterinarians are educated.
In the following years, the College of Rectors of the Jagiellonian University established the Temporary Direction Council, and then the Program Council of the UCMW UJ-UR, which is composed of the Professors' Staff of both the Jagiellonian University and the University of Agriculture.
On February 1, 2012 , on the basis of the aforementioned agreement of June 8, 2010, the Rectors' College signed an agreement on the provision of uniform Master's studies in the field of Veterinary by the University Center for Veterinary Medicine of the Jagiellonian University. EQF has started recruiting. Almost 16 candidates applied for one place. 58 people were admitted to the first year of studies.
The inauguration ceremony took place in the auditorium of Collegium Maius on October 4, 2012.
