About

The non-profit Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung has been supporting people and projects in science, education, health services, sport, literature, music and fine art since 1968. It has invested 680 million Euros since its establishment at its headquarters in Essen, throughout Germany and internationally. As the biggest shareholder in thyssenkrupp AG and in accordance with the will of its founder, the object of the Stiftung is to use the revenue deriving from its assets exclusively and directly to serve the common good. Through its work it sets priorities in science and university development, aims to enable equal opportunities, contributes to international understanding and improves the education of younger generations. The Stiftung owns the Villa Hügel with its park and the Historisches Archiv Krupp, which are accessible to the public.

Photography is a main topic of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung: For years it has supported artists and curators with scholarships and enabled the acquisition of collections for museums - and finally the Historisches Archiv Krupp holds over 2.5 million photographs on industrial history. In the field of education, the Stiftung aims to give young people the chance to develop their own skills at an early age: More than 1.300 pupils from Essen have already had the opportunity to plan their future careers with the help of internships abroad. Promoting young talent is also part of the sponsorship program: The Alfried Krupp-Förderpreis, endowed with 1 million Euros, enables young professors to advance their work independently. The Stiftung's own Alfried Krupp Krankenhaus at two locations in Essen offers excellent medical and nursing care. Events such as the "Salon am Hügel" address current social issues, for example the influence of Instagram on photographic art.
