The Stutthof Museum was established thanks to the efforts of former prisoners of the Stutthof camp, by a resolution of the Presidium of the Provincial National Council in Gdańsk on March 12, 1962. It is a state cultural institution subordinated to the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.The role of the Museum Council at the Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo is to supervise the fulfillment by the museum of its obligations towards the collections and society, in particular the permanent protection of cultural property, informing about the values and content of the collected collections, disseminating the basic values of Polish and world history, science and culture, shaping cognitive and aesthetic sensitivity and enabling contact with collections
