About
The history of SEARS begins in 1886 when a 22-year-old young man named Richard Sears, an employee at the North Redwood, Minnesota Train Station, received a shipment of watches for a local jeweler. He refused to accept the order and Richard Sears, instead of returning it, as any person without commercial acumen would have done, bought it and sold each of the watches for a small profit. Encouraged by this success, Sears decides to leave his train station job and start a business selling watches by mail order. This is how our success story in the world of work begins. Later the first retail store was opened in Chicago. In the following years, it continued to grow and in the 1940s, it consolidated itself as an international company by beginning operations in Mexico, Canada and Puerto Rico. On February 27, 1947, Sears opened its first store in Mexico City (79-101), on Insurgentes Avenue, capturing the attention of customers with its motto: “Complete satisfaction or your money back.” On April 28, 1997, Grupo CARSO purchases 85% of the shares in Mexico. This new stage contributed to the sustained development of the Company, thus providing a new work philosophy. Today we are Sears 100% Mexico.
