Towards a comprehensive European strategy to assess and monitor aquatic litter including plastic and microplastic pollution

Objectives: The grant aims to establish a harmonized and coordinated strategy across Europe for assessing and monitoring aquatic litter, including plastic and microplastic pollution, in both freshwater and marine environments. The objectives focus on improving knowledge and FAIR data for comprehensive litter assessments, developing validated and cost-effective monitoring strategies adopted by environmental authorities, and strengthening cooperation between scientific institutions and authorities at EU and national levels. The grant also seeks to advance EU policies related to marine litter and microplastics through baseline and threshold settings.
