Children Believe is currently recruiting for the following position:

New Business Development (NBD) Manager

Based out of Canada Office, reporting to the Director, Global Partnerships, the NBD Manager manages all aspects of the new business development process and the grants pipeline. The incumbent works to map select donors, identify relevant funding opportunities, develop and submit quality multi-country, multi-year funding proposals to government, multi lateral and global foundation donors. The role works collaboratively with NBD Managers across Children’s Believe country offices on opportunity risk assessments and by providing technical knowledge on business development to enhance in-country capacity, provide critical input to design and development of Country Office proposals. The goal is contributing to the growth of Children’s Believe grant revenue and securing funding for new strategic and renewal of ongoing initiatives.

This role includes, but not limited to:

1. Donor mapping, pre-positioning and proposal development:

Conducts prospect research and analysis of funding opportunities, solicited and unsolicited, in alignment with Children Believe’s strategic priorities, for funding support to programmes, advocacy and research initiatives.
Conduct donor mapping and analysis, and report on changes in donor priorities; produce monthly analysis of sectoral and funding trends to the Director, Global Partnerships.
Develop and maintain a database of contacts/networks of international development funding agencies globally in order to pre-position Children Believe as a partner of choice to donor agencies.
Maintain strong communications and relationship with current and prospective donors.
Maintain strong and trusting collaborative networks with BD Managers in partner agencies in Canada and globally for continuous intel sharing and opportunity to form consortia.
Manage the Canada Office proposal development process (multi-country or regional proposals, including outside Children Believe’s countries of operation) including timelines and deliverables.
Provide technical input to CO led proposal as and when required.
Manage the funding opportunity risk assessment and Go-NoGo processes in alignment with Children Believe’s grants and fiscal policies and procedures.
Develop guidelines and templates for concept notes and proposals, highlighting best practices and lessons learnt from previous submissions.
Produce quality concept notes and proposals.
Develop and coordinate budget preparation for proposals, using appropriate donor templates.
Conduct proposal development debriefs and document lessons learnt and best practices for continuous improvement of proposal development and to support donor stewardship.
Ensure completeness of documentation and support handover process from NBD to CMs for the grants that have been awarded.
Establish and maintain records and SharePoint site associated with NBD, Donor Agencies and Grants.

2. Grants pipeline management and reporting:

Regularly update grants pipeline for Canada Office opportunities and coordinate timely updates by the Country Offices.
Prepare monthly pipeline update reports, including the grant match updates.
Prepare weekly updates to the Director, Global Partnerships related to any movements in the grants pipeline and approved and tentative contracts.

3. NBD Global Community of Practice:

Organize monthly NBD Managers COP, prepare agenda and minutes, conduct learning activities.
Establish regular calls with NBD Managers across COs to receive regular updates and provide ongoing support.
Coach and mentor CO NBD Managers to lead successful pre-positioning, development and management of consortia, proposal process development and leadership, and strategic program design.
Support and guide COs through the Opportunity Risk Assessment and Go-NoGo processes.
Drive application of RBM standards throughout all COs and provide necessary training and/or support, in country and virtually.

4. Strategic Initiatives:

Advocate on behalf of Children Believe to maintain and cultivate key donor relationships in Canada and globally. Actions and networking will result in Children Believe being identified as a ‘partner of choice’ to implement donor programs.
Provide guidance and support to NBD Managers to stimulate out of the box thinking that results in new and enhanced methods of engaging with donors and the community.
Work with the Programs team to identify and disseminate key advocacy positions that are based on Children Believe field experience and sectoral priorities.
Co-late information and co-ordinate submission of Children Believe pre-qualification process for all donors, when required.

5. Other:

Comply with all Children Believe policies and procedures.
Other related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate possesses:

University degree (minimum B.A or BSc. International Development or Economics or International / Global Business Management) required; graduate degree preferred
Educational focus on topical areas of Gender, Education, Child Protection and Participation as key strategic areas of Children Believe are highly desired
Minimum 5 years of progressive work experience in international development, including direct field experience, knowledge of humanitarian and emergency relief an asset
Track record of securing grants from institutional donors, particularly GAC
Knowledge of Results Based Management (RBM)
Knowledge of child rights programming in: education, child protection, early childhood development, health, food security, capacity building, livelihoods and economic empowerment, advocacy and emergency response is an asset
Minimum 5-7 years grant writing and proposal development experience with institutional donors. Experience with development foundations an asset
Excellent research, report writing and proposal development skills
Knowledge of sound program and project management principles including proper budgeting and monitoring
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; good organizational skills; attention to detail
Effective at building positive relationships with staff and partnerships with stakeholders at all levels with a focus on capacity building in the field
Professional in communication with internal and external stakeholders, in person and while working virtually
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite, SharePoint.
Fluency and excellent written skills in English; proficiency in French or Spanish an asset
Ability to travel for business – approximately 20% in Canada and internationally
