Program Officer, Communities
About the Foundation
Headquartered in Montreal, the McConnell Foundation is a private Canadian foundation that strives for a resilient, inclusive and sustainable society that can successfully address its complex challenges.
Opportunity
Under the supervision of the Program director, the successful candidate will join a dynamic team that supports diverse and innovative approaches to address community resilience, reconciliation and climate change. We do so through funding and investment partnerships, strengthening capabilities, convening, and collaborating with the public, private and non-profit sectors.
Location
Flexible within Canada. Montreal preferred. (Remote work is in effect while COVID-19 restrictions apply.) Remote employees must reside in Canada full-time.
Main responsibilities
Program Responsibilities
Supports the development and implementation of the Foundation’s Communities strategy, funding and partnerships in alignment with the Foundation’s overall strategic direction.
Supports information flow between internal teams and external partners.
Identifies resources, gaps, and needs in the field (chosen with their supervisor) and recommends options/approaches for consideration.
Receives and follows up on documents and financial reports by partners.
Ensures information is up to date in the grants and partnership database.
Ensures timely and respectful communications with partners.
Implements an annual work plan.
Supports the design and implementation of convening activities.
Cross-Cutting Responsibilities
Contributes to a healthy and productive team dynamic.
Develops opportunities for shared learning and action across focus areas.
If/as relevant, engages on secondary focus areas and/or special projects of team-wide significance.
Helps partners navigate Foundation processes.
Provides input into team strategy and processes
Participates in the development of quarterly Board books.
Supports focus area and program team communications as needed.
Collaboration and Representation
Builds strong relationships with partners and stakeholders.
Represents the Foundation in external collaborations, committees and working groups where appropriate

Seeks out opportunities for professional development related to the Communities Focus Area and more broadly.

Position requirements
3-5 years experience in program support and/or administration.
Post-Secondary degree or equivalent experience.
Experience with and understanding of non-profit organizations and community-led initiatives.
Commitment to EDIA frameworks and practices.
Availability and willingness to travel.
Functional bilingualism with excellent oral and written skills in either English or French.
Assets
Understanding of the landscape and trends in the Foundation’s focus areas and philanthropy in Canada.
Experience in budget administration.
Knowledge of the philanthropic sector.
Experience facilitating and coordinating groups.
Experience with monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks and processes.
