HR & Payroll Assistant
POSITION: TERM- FULLTIME - 6 months (37.5 hours per week)

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a highly motivated, team-orientated individual to join our Human Resources team as a HR & Payroll Assistant .
Reporting to the Senior Director Human Resources, the primary objective of the role is to manage and produce full-cycle payroll, benefit administration, and assist with day-to-day operations and clerical functions of the Human Resources Department at Métis Nation BC.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing for 100+ employees on a bi-weekly cycle.
Ensure payroll reporting and remittances in compliance with CRA, BC Pension Corporation, and WorkSafe BC, and in accordance with Employment Standards Act and MNBC policies.
Coordinate all aspects of employee benefits and pension plan enrollments.
Responsible for investigating and resolving payroll or benefit issues in a timely manner.
In consultation with the Finance Department, ensure payroll and benefit premium reconciliations are complete and accurate.
Manage and update a variety of payroll reports, preparing ad-hoc reports and complete salary and compensation survey/reports as needed.
Assist with other Human Resource functions such as recruitment activities, leave management and new employee onboarding.
Maintain personnel files, ensuring all required documentation is present and meticulously organized.
Complete a variety of day-to-day office and clerical tasks that support the Human Resources Department
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Must be pursuing or willing to pursue a payroll certification/designation.
Post – secondary education along with relevant work experience of at least one year in a human resources / payroll function.
Basic knowledge of accounting principles and accounting programs would be an asset
Combination of relevant experience, education, and training will be considered
In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation such as Employment Standards, and Canada Revenue Agency and WorkSafe BC requirements
Knowledge and/or awareness of Métis people in B.C.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
Ability to lead, problem solve, and utilize team-building skills
Proven ability to build relationships and maintain a high level of confidentiality
Demonstrated ability to perform administrative tasks with a high attention to detail
Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision
Proven ability to utilize, adapt and embrace new technologies, including Word, Excel and other database/software required by the role
OTHER COMMENTS
Other duties may be assigned as needed to help ensure the efficient operation of MNBC.
There may be a need to work outside of the normal business hours to meet payroll deadlines.
Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
