Role: Gender, Diversity & Inclusion Research Officer
Summary
This is an exciting role that involves conducting research on one of the most persistent and challenging issues in the humanitarian and development sectors, the integration of intersectional gender equality, including women’s rights, participation and leadership, and diversity inclusion. The Research Officer will contribute to an exciting range of research projects across multiple countries, contexts and sectors. The position requires a highly flexible, autonomous worker with a desire to learn. The candidate should be highly motivated by working on how women, girls, boys and men of all ages and backgrounds experience crises and how the humanitarian and development sectors respond to their resultant needs, concerns and priorities, as well as their capacities and agency.
This position is for someone early in their career.
The Role
The Research Officer will help to design and deliver research projects on our Diversity, Inclusion and Equality Mission. The responsibilities of the role include:
Research (50% of time)
§ Define research questions and lines of enquiry
§ Conducting meta-analysis and background research
§ Designing mixed methods research projects
§ Producing research tools such as quantitative surveys and qualitative discussion guides
§ Conducting data collection, both qualitative and quantitative
§ Data quality assurance, normalisation, cleaning and preparation
§ Quantitative analysis using SPSS, STATA and statistical analysis
§ Analysis and collation of qualitative data
§ Writing high quality research reports to academic publication standard
§ Creating presentations of research results and participating in their dissemination
§ Peer reviewing and editing research outputs
§ Assisting with client communication and management
§ Professional development of research skills and capabilities
Fundraising (30% of time)
§ Presenting research findings
§ Attending donor and partner meetings
§ Conducting pre-bid research
§ Identifying partners and consultants for potential projects
§ Designing methodologies for several types of project proposals including research projects, evaluation projects and program design projects
§ Marketing activity such as blog posts, website updates and press releases
§ Representation at fundraising meetings, presentations and virtual events
§ End-to-end management of research projects using corporate project management processes and systems.
Corporate Support (10% of time)
§ Content writing for online properties including website and social media
§ Assist with a range of administrative tasks including but not limited to recruitment processes, software selection, expenses and corporate service development.
§ Participating in continuous professional development processes
A successful candidate will meet the following requirements:
§ Strong knowledge and experience of gender equality and women’s leadership and participation in humanitarian and development sectors
§ 1-3 years’ experience of mixed methods research
§ Fluency in written and spoken English. Additional languages are a distinct advantage, specifically Arabic and/or French
§ Motivated by feminist principles
