Program Director

DW is seeking a Program Director (f/m/d) Colombia and Region for the DW Akademie office in Bogota as of 1 January 2026 or as soon as possible on the basis of a full-time local staff contract limited until 31 December 2028.

THE ROLE

• responsibility for the DW Akademie projects in Colombia, Bolivia and Ecuador (among other countries in South America), in particular for the BMZ-funded project "Dialogue-oriented journalism for environmental and human rights"
• responsibility for monitoring, evaluation and achievement of project goals and fulfillment of indicators including responsibility for planning and compliance with the budget
• interlinking of all DW Akademie projects in the region
• management of the DW Akademie office in Bogota
• representation of DW Akademie vis-à-vis other German, international and local institutions in Colombia and the region
• reporting and constant communication with DW Akademie offices in Germany
• consulting and strategic development of the cooperation with partner organizations in the region
• monitoring of the media landscape and political developments in the region

YOUR PROFILE

• completed university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Journalism or another relevant field
• longstanding professional experience in the field of journalism, freedom of expression and media development, ideally including professional experience in the field of Media and Information Literacy, Media Viability, and/or environment and climate protection
• proven experience in the management of projects in the context of international development cooperation, including networking and acquisition skills
• proven experience in the development of innovative methods and instruments of media education in the context of local and community media in the region
• excellent knowledge of the media situation and political developments specifically in Colombia, Bolivia and Ecuador and the rest of South America, as well as training and consulting experience in media projects in the region
• experience in leading small teams; excellent organizational and communication skills, high level of intercultural sensitivity and respect for diversity
• professional language proficiency in German and Spanish (written and spoken), as well as a good level of English, necessary
• experience in conflict and crisis areas, and willingness to travel (national and international)
