Who we are?

IDA is an international independent non-governmental organization providing medical and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflicts, natural disasters and epidemics regardless of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.
IDA was founded in 2012 by Syrian doctors from Aleppo in response to the healthcare and humanitarian crisis in Syria.

IDA Syria is the main healthcare provider in the Northern Aleppo/Syria area, working closely with 500,000 IDPs and 700,000 host communities through 20 healthcare facilities and other health and nutrition projects

During last year, IDA has provided 1.2 million services in Heath, Nutrition, WaSH and Camp Management

Roles and Responsibilities:

To provide strategic leadership for IDA’s philanthropy, fundraising, advocacy, and communications portfolio, ensuring

coordinated and coherent engagement across all external functions. The Coordinator ensures that IDA’s advocacy

initiatives are evidence-based, fundraising efforts diversified, and communications professional and impactful.

The role also requires maintaining effective internal communication with the General Director, Programs Development Director, Country Directors for

Syria and Türkiye, Programs unit and Operations unit to ensure alignment across departments.

Specific Responsibilities:

Fundraising & Philanthropy Coordination

  • Implement and manage IDA’s private fundraising activities, engaging foundations, corporations, and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Develop and execute digital crowd-funding campaigns to mobilize public support and diversify IDA’s donor base.
  • Support the exploration of innovative financing and corporate social responsibility (CSR) partnerships.
  • Coordinate stewardship processes, ensuring timely donor reporting, accountability, and recognition.
  • Maintain synchronized donor pipelines with the Partnerships & Program Development team to avoid duplication and maximize opportunities.

Advocacy & Policy Support

  • Support the development and delivery of IDA’s advocacy strategy at various levels, ensuring activities are program-driven and evidence-based.
  • Facilitate coordination between programs, research, and communications units to gather data and stories for advocacy purposes.
  • Represent IDA in relevant coalitions and forums, as delegated by senior management.
  • Help strengthen alliances with peer NGOs, civil society organizations, and think tanks.

Communications & Media Management

  • Implement IDA’s communications and media strategy under the guidance of senior leadership, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and values.
  • Manage day-to-day operations across traditional, digital, and social media platforms, including content creation and publishing.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with national and international media contacts to secure coverage for IDA’s work.
  • Monitor media channels and support crisis communication and reputational risk management efforts.

Coordination & Internal Communication

  • Serve as a focal point for coordinating external engagement activities, ensuring consistency in messaging and branding.
  • Collaborate closely with the Partnerships & Program Development team to ensure coherent donor engagement and proposal support.
  • Facilitate effective internal communication with the General Director, Country Directors, Programs unit, and Operations unit to ensure cross-departmental alignment.
  • Provide mentorship and oversight to junior communications and media staff, fostering professional growth and high performance.

Other Duties

  • Conduct regular field visits (up to 40% travel) to document stories, support donor visits, and represent IDA’s work to potential partners.
  • Ensure compliance with IDA policies, guidelines, and standards across all activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, including financial and human resource data.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the General Director.

Qualifications:

Generic professional competencies for this position:

  • Master’s degree in International Relations, Development, Communications, Business Administration, or
  • related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience, including 5 years in senior leadership positions.
  • Demonstrated experience in philanthropy, corporate giving, and private donor fundraising.
  • Proven track record in advocacy, media relations, and communications leadership.
  • Excellent English required; Arabic an asset.
  • Strong skills in coordination and collaboration across complex organisational structures

Context/specific skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of the context across Syria;
  • Good standing and reputation in the community;
  • Experience of working with local partners;
  • Experience in conducting assessments and monitoring activities;
  • Exceptional strategic planning and problem-solving skills;
  • Advanced representation and negotiation skills with experience in high-level coordination;
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to identify opportunities and risks;
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in English (Arabic is a strong advantage);
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under tight deadlines.
