Technical Field Manager – WAM, Lebanon
The starting salary package for this position is £71,656 GBP per annum (approx. $96,299 USD) including all allowances.
About MAG:
MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
About the role:
As a Technical Field Manager WAM, you will be responsible for implementing all aspects of Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) Operations and related tasks in the country of operation in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and as required by the Country Director (CD), Senior Technical Advisor (STA), and the Regional WAM Operations Manager (WOM). This will include coordinating and providing technical oversight on WAM-type projects from the initial project design, rehabilitation, and/or construction of new facilities through to the development of a sustainable National capacity. You will be also supporting the CD/WOM in ensuring the overall safe execution of all MAG technical activities within the country of operation.
About you:
You must have experience of working as an Ammunition Technician or Ammunition Technical Officer (ATO), or equivalent in Small Arms Light Weapons (SALW) /Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) type operations in developing countries. You will also need to be IMAS EOD 3+ qualified and have experience in managing WAM Operations and conducting Logistical demolitions.
You will need excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan and coordinate activities and projects. You must have excellent people management skills with a proven track record of leading, motivating, and managing a diverse team of people. You will also have the ability to contribute technical knowledge of WAM-type activities and operations. Fluent written and spoken English language skills are essential, whilst local language skills, such as Arabic would be desirable.
About the Lebanon programme:
MAG launched its Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) and Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) activities in Lebanon in 2017, in close coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), the Ministry of Defense, PM/WRA, and the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. The program aims to enhance national security and stability by ensuring the safe storage, management, and disposal of weapons and ammunition, in line with international standards (IATG). Since its inception, MAG has constructed over 20 explosive storehouses (ESH)—creating more than 2,000 m² of safe storage space—and upgraded key sites. Beyond infrastructure, MAG has trained over 90 LAF personnel, , and conducted 66 site assessments to identify and mitigate high-risk areas. Looking ahead to 2025–2027, MAG plans to expand its work by building new ammunition depots in South Lebanon, strengthening national training facilities, and supporting the LAF in implementing sustainable, decentralized, and safe stockpile management systems, ultimately safeguarding lives and reinforcing Lebanon’s long-term security and resilience.
