Role Overview

We are seeking an exceptional leader to serve as Director of our Health, Nutrition & WASH practice globally. This strategic role combines visionary leadership, technical excellence, project management, and business development responsibilities. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving innovation and growth in our Health, Nutrition & WASH portfolio while delivering cutting-edge solutions that transform health outcomes.

Career Trajectory: This position will work closely with the Practice Head and is envisaged to transition into the Practice Lead role within approximately one year, based on demonstrated performance and organizational alignment. The role offers an unparalleled opportunity for an ambitious leader to shape the strategic direction of our health initiatives and advance to the highest levels of organisational leadership.

Location: This position can be based in New Delhi, India, or one of our East Africa offices (Kenya/Ethiopia), with responsibility for global operations and significant travel requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Project Management

  • Provide visionary leadership to ensure programmatic excellence, technical quality, and financial integrity across all projects.

  • Develop and regularly update comprehensive work plans aligned with beneficiary needs, government priorities, and donor requirements.

  • Ensure strict compliance with funder policies (Gates Foundation, CIFF, World Bank, AfDB, ADB, GAVI, The Global Fund, bilateral donors), IPE Global procedures, and international best practices.

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including funding agencies, Ministries of Health, civil society organisations, and implementing partners.

  • Oversee project budgets, financial operations, and resource allocation, and ensure optimal utilisation of funds.

Technical Excellence & Quality Assurance

  • Guide the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based interventions across health systems strengthening, RMNCAH+A, sexual and reproductive health, health financing, and WASH.

  • Ensure technical rigour, quality assurance, and sustainability of all project activities and deliverables.

  • Lead the development of robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) frameworks with clear indicators and data systems.

  • Review, edit, and contribute to technical reports, policy briefs, research publications, and knowledge products..

  • Champion innovation by integrating digital health solutions, data analytics, and adaptive management approaches.

Team Leadership & Capacity Building

  • Recruit, build, lead, and mentor high-performing, diverse teams across multiple geographies.

  • Coordinate team efforts to achieve rapid, measurable, and sustainable results.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.

  • Develop leadership capacity within the team and provide professional growth opportunities.

Business Development & Strategic Partnerships

  • Identify emerging trends, opportunities, and innovative approaches in the health, nutrition, and WASH sectors globally.

  • Cultivate and strengthen strategic relationships with donors, multilateral agencies, foundations, government bodies, and private sector partners.

  • Lead the development of compelling, technically sound proposals for complex, large-scale competitive bids.

  • Collaborate with technical experts, researchers, and consortium partners to identify and pursue new business opportunities.

  • Enhance IPE Global's brand visibility, thought leadership, and reputation as a trusted partner in global health and development.

  • Represent IPE Global at international conferences, technical forums, and stakeholder meetings.

Governance & Financial Oversight

  • Oversee project delivery, risk management, and financial performance across the practice portfolio.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, donor requirements, and ethical standards.

  • Contribute to strengthening systems for performance monitoring, reporting, and impact measurement.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Public Health, International Development, Medicine, Health Policy, or related field from a recognised institution.

  • Atleast 15 years of progressive leadership experience within international development, with substantial focus on health programs.

  • Proven track record in successfully managing large-scale, multi-million dollar donor-funded projects across multiple countries.

  • Deep technical expertise in at least two of the following: health systems strengthening, RMNCAH+A, sexual and reproductive health, family planning, WASH, health financing, or digital health.

  • Experience working with IPE Global's key donors: Gates Foundation, CIFF, World Bank, AfDB, ADB, or similar organisations.

  • Demonstrated success in business development with a strong track record of winning proactive and competitive bids from major donors.

  • Strong financial management skills with experience overseeing project budgets and ensuring compliance with donor regulations.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement abilities across diverse cultural contexts.

  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (up to 40%) within India, Africa, and other regions as required.

  • This role is suited for a leader prepared to take on full practice leadership responsibilities in a global, multi-sectoral context.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Asia and/or Africa, with an understanding of diverse health system contexts.

  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals or contributions to significant policy documents.

  • Experience with adaptive management, human-centred design, or systems thinking approaches.

  • Strong network within the global health community and development sector.
