 Job Summary:

The Senior Production and Marketing Officer will provide high level technical expertise and support to DCA and partner staff in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the Novo Nordisk Foundation–funded Food Security and Nutrition Project. Promote regenerative and restorative farming systems including Resilience Design, agroecology, agroforestry, and other nature-based, sustainable agricultural practices across DCA’s operational areas in the West-Nile region. Facilitate the adoption of environmentally sound and economically viable production systems in close collaboration with DCA West Nile teams, local partner organizations, and relevant stakeholders. Develop training materials, technical guidelines, capacity-building tools, and deliver high-quality training to DCA staff, partner staff, agricultural extension workers, community-based facilitators, and farmer groups on climate-smart, regenerative and ecologically sustainable food production and marketing approaches.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall technical leadership on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), Resilience Design (RD), and Agroecology interventions across project locations.
  • Develop strategies tailored to local agroecological zones, ensuring effective coordination and backstopping for implementation.
  • Offer evidence-based recommendations to strengthen program strategies and scale sustainable production practices.
  • Design and develop context-appropriate training materials, manuals, tools, and guidelines for diverse audiences (staff, partners, extension workers, community facilitators, and farmer groups).
  • Deliver high-quality training on regenerative and restorative farming systems, including agroecology, agroforestry, soil and water conservation, Perma gardens, kitchen gardens, and resilience design.
  • Strengthen the technical skills of DCA and partner staff to support sustainable agricultural production and pro-poor market systems.
  • Integrate cross-cutting themes: nutrition, gender, cash-based programming, and environmental sustainability into all training and extension packages.
  • Link project participants to input dealers, financial institutions, and markets to strengthen value chains.
  • Facilitate the establishment and maintenance of demonstration gardens, perma gardens, block farms, and other learning platforms to promote knowledge exchange on food security, nutrition, and agroecology.
  • Participate in the design and application of community selection and targeting criteria, ensuring inclusive representation using the Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) principle.
  • Support farmer groups and producer organizations to engage in inclusive, resilient, and sustainable market systems.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders (local government, OPM, UNHCR, beneficiary representatives, etc.) to ensure effective coordination and institutional linkages on agroecology and sustainable food systems.
  • Represent DCA in relevant food security, nutrition, agriculture, and agroecology working groups, as well as district, settlement/zonal, and national coordination forums.
  • Contribute technically to the design of new proposals and concept notes on food security, nutrition, agroecology, and climate-resilient livelihoods.
  • Ensure compliance with DCA’s program quality standards, safeguarding principles, and ethical engagement in all technical and community processes.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, or a closely related field from a recognized university. A postgraduate qualification (master’s degree or postgraduate diploma) in any of the above fields is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ progressive experience in implementing Climate Smart Agriculture, Agroecology, or Resilience Design programs within an NGO or development agency.
  • Strong technical expertise in regenerative climate smart agriculture, Resilience Design, soil and water conservation, agroecology, farm planning, and ecosystem restoration.
  • Demonstrated experience in farmer training and participatory extension methodologies.
  • Experience working with refugees and host communities or in dryland farming systems is an added advantage.
  • Solid understanding of gender equality, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability in agricultural programming.
  • Excellent coordination, analytical, facilitation, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Proficient in MS Office applications; working knowledge of GIS or data visualization tools is desirable.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; familiarity with local languages in West Nile is an asset.
