Description

About Us

A+S Consult GmbH is an international consulting and engineering company delivering donor-funded transport infrastructure and mobility projects worldwide. We support clients with technical planning, implementation management, and capacity building to strengthen institutions and ensure sustainable operation and maintenance of complex assets.

Objective:

The project focuses on developing a comprehensive Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) to guide the creation of an inter-modal and multi-modal urban transport network and ensure seamless urban transport services for the Nairobi Metropolitan Area.

Position: Senior MRTS Services Planner

We are seeking an expert to lead the planning and development of Mass Rapid Transit Systems (MRTS) within the Nairobi Metropolitan Area. The role focuses on ensuring that the MRTS network is seamlessly integrated with the broader multi-modal transport system, mass transit service corridors are optimized for current and future passenger demand, and strategies for efficient, inter-modal passenger transfers are effectively assessed and incorporated into the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan.

Key Responsibilities

·       Information & Wayfinding Baseline Assessment: Evaluate the existing passenger information systems, static signage, and wayfinding conditions across all transit modes in the NMA to identify navigational barriers and alignment gaps.

·       Integrated Information Strategy: Formulate a cohesive strategy for corridor, service, and information integration across multi-modal networks (MRTS, commuter rail, buses, matatus, and NMT) to enable seamless passenger transit.

·       Inclusive & Accessible Design: Establish unified wayfinding design principles and universal access standards that address the specific informational needs of women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

·       User Experience Optimization: Design intuitive spatial wayfinding structures, physical transit maps, and iconography systems to minimize last-mile friction and transfer confusion at major interchange nodes.

·       Digital & Real-Time Data Integration: Define requirements for smart city passenger communication, integrating real-time passenger information (RTPI) and digital wayfinding tools with broader Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

·       Interchange Hub Information Layouts: Collaborate with urban and station designers to optimize passenger flow through strategic placement of informational landmarks, directories, and signage inside public transport terminals.

·       Guidelines & Standards Formulation: Develop comprehensive wayfinding guidelines and operational manuals to ensure uniform, NMA-wide adoption of passenger information standards by national and county governments.

Candidate Requirements

  • Advanced transport qualifications
  • At least fifteen (15) years of experience in transport planning, project management, or transport engineering.
  • Experience in MRTS corridor design, street design, PT System reform, management and implementation is required.
