BDO East Africa Burundi is the Burundi member firm of BDO International, a global network of audit, tax and advisory firms present in more than 160 countries. Our advisory practice works with banks, public institutions, private companies, development partners and NGOs on governance, risk, performance, digital and investment questions.
Why we are recruiting
Our advisory engagements cover a wide range of subjects and often require specialists for assignments We are building a roster of independent consultants in Burundi who can join our teams on specific missions and on proposals to development partners. Being on the roster does not guarantee work. We will contact you when an assignment matches your profile.
Areas of expertise we need
1. Risk advisory and governance
- Corporate governance assessments of boards and management (including bank governance under BRB rules)
- Enterprise risk management frameworks and risk registers
- Compliance reviews, including anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT)
- Design and review of internal control systems and procedures manuals
2. Forensic services
- Fraud investigations and forensic accounting
- Anti-corruption and integrity reviews
- Investigation of procurement irregularities in public and donor-funded projects
- Litigation support and expert reports
3. Management consulting
- Strategic plans, business plans and organisational reviews
- Process mapping and redesign
- HR audits, job descriptions, salary surveys and organisational structures
- Public financial management and institutional capacity assessments
- Monitoring and evaluation: baseline studies, mid-term and final evaluations of programmes
- Market studies and feasibility studies
4. Digital and cybersecurity
- IT strategy and IT governance reviews
- ERP and core banking system selection and implementation support
- Cybersecurity assessments, penetration test coordination and data protection reviews
- Digital transformation projects for public and private clients
5. Deal advisory
- Financial due diligence
- Business valuations
- Financial modelling for investments and projects
- Support to fundraising and investor readiness
Sector specialists
We also want to hear from consultants with deep sector knowledge in banking and microfinance, insurance, energy and off-grid solar, agriculture, water and sanitation, health, telecoms and mining, who can work alongside our core teams.
What we are looking for
- University degree (Master's preferred) in management, economics, finance, law, IT, engineering or a field relevant to your area of expertise
- At least 5 years of consulting experience, including at least 3 completed missions in your area of expertise; senior consultants and team leaders should have 10 years or more
- Experience with assignments financed by the World Bank, AfDB, EU, USAID, UN agencies or other development partners
- Ability to write clear, well-structured reports in French and English
- Good knowledge of the Burundian institutional and economic context
Advantages
- Relevant certification: CFE, CIA, CRMA, CISA, CISM, PMP, PRINCE2, CFA, or equivalent
- Previous work with an international consulting firm
- Experience in fragile or post-conflict settings
- Kirundi for field work and community surveys
