The Bridge Senior Engineer will be responsible for providing technical advice to the PMU, ensuring the projects road construction is in line with various internationally accepted design methodologies applicable to tropical countries, technical inputs in terms of references for the various consultants that may be required by PMU to prepare the road project.
The Senior Bridges Engineer shall provide technical inputs on designing storm water runoff drainage systems and associated drainage structures by evaluation and recommendations on conceptual design and detailed designs and performance prediction from reports submitted by the consultants and contractors on design and construction phases.
He/She will also provide input to ensure the resilience of road infrastructure to climate change by conducting assessments and issuing report recommendation on the drainage systems / structures on all roads included in the project, issuing inputs/recommendations from the bridge designs and performance prediction from reports submitted by the Consultants as well as from works quality control and advise to PMU.
The Senior Bridge Engineer will also be responsible for supporting PMU on establishment of programme key indicators for performance
overall implementation tracking, and progressively quality verification of the project and related works in line with various internationally standards and, to this end, shall issue a joint technical report every six months, with Senior Highway Engineer, including recommendations.
The Bridge Senior Engineer will join the PMU team during the World Bank implementation support missions and participate in the updating of the project status between successive missions.
He/She must be professionally qualified with a Master/ Post Graduate Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution and
professional registration. 15-years post-qualification experience of which 10 years shall be of relevant experience on bridge/roads projects of a similar nature, covering the conceptual design, detailed design, implementation of civil works construction contracts of high complexity and quality control.
He/she must have written and spoken English skills and practical knowledge of Portuguese.
Would be an additional advantage if He/She: (i) Has a minimum of 3 years' experience working on climate-resilient infrastructure solutions, and (ii) Hold a Master or Post Graduate Degree from a recognized institution in Hydrology/ Hydraulics.).
