mGBV is a platform that does not require the internet or a smartphone to protect against gender-based violence (GBV).
mGBV aims to be a tool that enables capacity building and awareness-raising for gender-based violence on a large scale. The platform is particularly adapted to African contexts and allows victims to raise the alert on all forms of GBV and thus benefit from any assistance that may be required.
mGBV does not require the installation of any application and is directly accessible to anyone with a cell phone without the need for a phone to be in credit. However, far from being limited to this purpose alone, mGBV also allows integration and optimum collaboration between NGOs, hospitals, social workers, and the police, etc. utilizing a centralized system that enables seamless synchronization between these complementary services.
Violence against women and girls is one of the most common human rights abuses throughout the world, occurring and recurring on a daily basis in every country. It has serious short and long-term physical, economic and psychological consequences for those affected, hampering their full and equal participation in society.
The magnitude of the impact of GBV on survivors, their families, and even society as a whole is immeasurable. The new ‘normal’ created by the COVID-19 pandemic – including lockdown measures, travel restrictions, increased isolation, stress, and economic uncertainty – has caused an alarming spike in domestic violence.
