Welcome to our exclusive interview with an expert in the field of investment banking who applied for the prestigious World Bank Young Professionals Program. In this interview, our client – who wishes to remain anonymous – explores his experience through the selection process and the many ways in which OpenIGO has helped him on this path. So let’s get right into it!

1. Can you tell us about your background and experience in investment banking and tax analysis?

Certainly! I have over 7 years of experience in the public and private sectors, specializing in investment banking and tax analysis in Asia. I have developed expertise in designing public policies, proposing effective implementation strategies, and conducting impact evaluations. My background also includes research and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to inform evidence-based policy decisions.

2. How did you know about the World Bank YPP selection process?

As someone who is passionate about the field of investment banking and tax analysis, I am always on the lookout for opportunities to further my career and contribute to sustainable economic development. While researching various avenues for professional growth, I came across the World Bank YPP through online forums and networking with professionals in the development field.
The World Bank is renowned for its global impact and commitment to poverty alleviation, and the YPP presented itself as an excellent opportunity for me to make a meaningful contribution to its mission while furthering my own career aspirations. I was particularly drawn to the YPP’s rigorous selection process, which aligns with my commitment to excellence and continuous learning.

3. Why did you apply for the World Bank?

I have always been intrigued by the World Bank’s Young Professionals Program, renowned as one of the most prestigious recruitment processes in the world. Building a career in an international financial institution has been a cherished aspiration of mine. What sets the World Bank Group apart is its commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable people, harnessing knowledge and expertise to find solutions to everyday challenges faced by communities.

4. What were the main challenges of applying for the World Bank YPP and how did you find OpenIGO’s assistance to overcome those?

As an applicant to the World Bank YPP, I encountered several challenges during the application process. One of the key hurdles was ensuring that my essay, abstract, and CV were well-crafted and effectively conveyed my skills and experiences. To address this, I sought external feedback from the OpenIGO application review service. The feedback provided me with insights and suggestions for improvement, helping me refine my application documents.

I wanted to make sure I had a thorough understanding of the YPP program and the World Bank as a whole. So, I conducted extensive research, which included reading an informative e-book provided by OpenIGO. This e-book gave me a comprehensive overview of the YPP program, and I found it to be a valuable resource for gaining insights into the program’s requirements, expectations, and selection criteria. It guided me in framing my application in the most effective manner and helped me align my skills and experiences with the Bank’s goals and priorities. Thanks to the e-book, I felt more confident in my application and had a better understanding of what the Bank was really looking for.

5. What recommendations do you have for someone who is applying for the 2023 World Bank YPP?

Well, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed, but you shouldn’t be afraid. Many candidates have found success with the support of reliable companies that genuinely help applicants, rather than just profiting from them. One such example is OpenIGO, and I am personally grateful for the assistance you guys provided during the process!

As someone who has recently received an email from the World Bank Group (WBG) requesting references and passport submission, I can confidently say that OpenIGO played a significant role in my journey.
