The Government of Japan contributed US$ 1 million to UNRWA in support of Palestine Refugees affected by the recent Israeli Security Forces operation in Jenin refugee camp on 4-5 July 2023.
The Director of UNRWA Affairs in the West Bank, Adam Bouloukos said, “This emergency response demonstrates Japan’s strong support for Palestine Refugees in Jenin camp in the critical humanitarian areas of sanitation, health, and response to unexploded ordnance. I would like to express our deep sympathy and solidarity with the people who suffered from the recent Israeli Security Forces operation, and our wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured and affected, directly or indirectly, by the situation.”
The UNRWA health center, the only primary health care in the camp, sustained extensive damage and can no longer be used. Camp residents, especially children, continue to be exposed to violence and suffer from anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder, among others. This contribution will allow UNRWA to establish and run a temporary health center for Palestine Refugees in and around the camp and provide mental health and psychosocial support.
Ambassador NAKASHIMA Yoichi said, “This emergency response is a gesture of Japan’s support for Palestinian Refugees in Jenin camp in critical humanitarian need for sanitation, health, and response to unexploded ordnance. I would like to express our deep sympathy and solidarity with the people who suffered from the recent Israeli Security Forces operation, and our wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured and affected, directly or indirectly, by the situation.”
