The European Union (EU) has contributed EUR 4 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to sustain and enhance the delivery of basic education and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) to Palestine Refugee children and youth in Syria.
Fourteen years into the protracted crisis and deteriorating economic conditions, people in Syria continue to suffer from poverty due to high inflation, currency depreciation, and increases in commodity prices. Amid such a multifaceted crisis, basic education and TVET both play a crucial role in providing hope.
Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Amanya Michael-Ebye, the Director of UNRWA Affairs in Syria, said: “On behalf of UNRWA and Palestine Refugees in Syria, I would like to express my appreciation to the European Union for this generous contribution. Support for youth with vocational training will help them find jobs and livelihood and strengthen crisis recovery efforts in the country.” He continued, “Despite the magnitude of the challenges that Palestine Refugees face, the valuable, enduring support of partners like the European Union enables UNRWA to provide vital services to Palestine Refugees across the Middle East, striving to bring back hope and a dignified life.”
