In this society, the world heavily relies on space-based assets, and considering the continuously evolving cyber threats in the current geopolitical environment, securing space data is a major challenge. Since 2021, CYSEC has been organizing CYSAT to bring together all the players in the space cybersecurity domain.

  • Satellite Data: Many critical ground services depend greatly on satellites to collect and transmit data. According to Allied Market Research, downstream services that rely on satellite data are expected to reach a market value of $19.36 billion by 2027, growing at an annual rate of 19.1%.
  • The Emerging Challenge: Ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of space data against cyber threats is a new challenge as satellites have historically been designed to be reliable but not secure.
  • Modern Trends: Recent trends such as software-defined satellites, usage of COTS components, in-orbit reconfigurations, intelligence on board, quantum technologies, etc., are making space assets and data increasingly vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

The mission

  • The main goal of CYSAT is to build a strong space cybersecurity ecosystem.
  • Since 2021, we’ve been uniting the space and cybersecurity communities to boost synergies within an expanding European ecosystem that is facing a rising number of sophisticated cyber threats.
