Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin TD, has announced €500,000 in humanitarian support for Vietnam and Laos in response to the devastation caused by Typhoon Yagi.
The funding from Ireland will support UNICEF to provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities to children and families affected by the disaster in Vietnam. It will also support the World Food Programme (WFP) to deliver emergency support to families in Laos.
Tánaiste Micheál Martin TD said: “This contribution from Ireland will ensure that families receive immediate assistance as they recover from the devastation of Typhoon Yagi. Ireland’s support will provide water, soap, food, and other essential items to people who have been displaced or impacted by the typhoon in Vietnam. WFP’s cash transfers will support the most affected households in Laos to access food, medicines, and shelter, and help meet their immediate needs. This reflects our solidarity with the people of Vietnam and Laos, and our commitment to addressing the most urgent needs of those affected.”
Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora, Sean Fleming TD, said: “Typhoon Yagi caused devastation and has left families in need of basic humanitarian aid. This contribution is part of Ireland’s longstanding commitment to disaster response and will further strengthen the partnerships between Ireland and both Vietnam and Laos.”
