UNIDO and Kuwait Fund partner to help conflict-affected countries

United Nations Industrial Development Organizations (UNIDO) and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signed a cooperation agreement today to support countries dealing with conflict and fragility. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Vienna on June 18th to help deliver aid to some of the world’s most vulnerable regions, according to a press release. The partnership will focus on countries facing conflict and complex development challenges.

The agreement builds on decades of experience from both organizations in supporting developing countries. KFAED has worked across developing nations with focus on basic infrastructure and services, while UNIDO brings expertise in industrial development and job creation. The partnership will use a trilateral cooperation model where KFAED works with international organizations and donor countries to increase impact.

The cooperation will focus on creating jobs, developing skills, and supporting economic recovery in fragile regions. Both organizations plan to work on infrastructure projects and provide direct support to communities in need. The partnership aims to help countries build stability through economic development and industrial growth.

“Through this partnership we will deliver concrete improvements in people’s lives, contributing to peacebuilding and long-term prosperity in fragile and conflict-affected countries,” said UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller. He noted that creating jobs and supporting skills development gives people hope for the future while helping countries recover economically.

The agreement represents a shared commitment to respond more effectively to global development challenges. KFAED Director General Waleed Al-Bahar emphasized the importance of taking a targeted approach to development cooperation, particularly in fragile contexts with results-driven programs that focus on infrastructure and community support.
