Egypt, ECOWAS boost talks on peace and trade

Egypt’s foreign minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met with leaders from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Abuja, Nigeria, on July 21 to talk about working together more closely, according to the press release. The meeting brought together top diplomats and focused on how both sides can tackle ongoing security issues, political changes, and boost trade and movement across borders.

ECOWAS Commissioner Abdel-Fatau Musah and his team explained that their main goals right now include supporting peace, building better roads and farms, and helping private businesses grow. They also discussed how the African Continental Free Trade Agreement is making it easier for people and goods to move freely in the region.

Both Egypt and ECOWAS agreed there’s a lot to gain from working together. Minister Abdelatty said Egypt values ECOWAS’s efforts to keep the region stable and wants to stay involved. “We want real conversations and practical teamwork. That’s how we’ll get results everyone can benefit from,” he told the group.

Egypt’s delegation included several senior diplomats, showing a strong interest in lasting partnership. The visit signals both sides are doubling down on joint solutions for some of West Africa’s biggest concerns.

Egypt and ECOWAS say they plan to keep the momentum going after this meeting and work together on projects that matter for people and communities.
