The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is lending up to $34.9 million to Mongolia’s Ministry of Health to build a specialized cardiovascular hospital in Ulaanbaatar, the EBRD announced. The project aims to improve access to healthcare and cut deaths from cardiovascular disease in the country.
The financing will cover construction and commissioning of a modern, roughly 120-bed cardiovascular facility designed to achieve top energy performance and receive national energy performance class A+ green certification for resource-efficient buildings. The green approach will help the hospital operate sustainably while delivering high-quality medical services.
The project is the latest under the Ulaanbaatar Green Cities Action Plan, approved in 2019, showing the EBRD’s commitment to sustainable urban development and better quality of life for residents. The EBRD’s loan will be matched by a $28.1 million contribution from the government of Mongolia, combining government funds and a grant from Luxembourg.
The EBRD has invested almost €2.5 billion in Mongolia’s economy through 159 projects so far, with about 90% of those funds supporting private-sector companies.
