Russian strikes on April 16, 2026 killed at least 15 people, including a child, across Ukraine, while more than 100 others were injured in Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro, according to a press release by Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). The attacks struck several areas of Kyiv, including a district adjacent to the MSF office and guesthouses. All 90 MSF staff in Kyiv took shelter and were reported safe.
Among those injured were emergency ambulance state workers in Kyiv, who were wounded while responding to save lives. MSF noted that repeated strikes increase the danger for first responders and civilians alike. People are not safe — not in their homes, and not even when receiving or providing help.
Robin Meldrum, MSF country director in Ukraine, described the impact on staff: “Last night, all our 90 MSF staff in Kyiv — along with their families and friends — were exposed to a mixture of fear and anxiety.” He added that missile explosions shook buildings in the district where the MSF office is based. Even over 1 km away, the explosions could be felt physically.
Meldrum further stated that “last night’s attack reflects the daily reality for millions of people across Ukraine, who continue to face relentless and unacceptable attacks affecting civilians, health care, and essential infrastructure.”
MSF extended its deepest condolences to the families of those killed. The organization also wished a safe recovery for all those injured.
The strikes underscore the ongoing danger facing civilians, health workers, and humanitarian staff across Ukraine. MSF’s presence in the directly affected district highlighted the proximity of the violence to aid operations. People across Ukraine continue to face relentless attacks against civilians, health care, and essential infrastructure.
