The Africa Water & Sanitation Systems Leadership Symposium 2026 will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from 17–21 August 2026, bringing together leaders and stakeholders to advance reforms and investment in the water and sanitation sector.
Co-convened by the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW) and the Government of Rwanda, and facilitated by IRC (International Water and Sanitation Centre), the symposium is designed to mobilize leadership at political, fiscal, financial and technical levels.
Organizers describe the event as a key step in launching Africa’s Systemic Transformation Agenda for Water and Sanitation and advancing implementation of the Africa Water Vision 2063. Discussions will focus on strengthening financial credibility as a foundation for attracting sustainable investment and building resilient water and sanitation systems.
The symposium will bring together African leaders, reformers, financiers and development partners to share country experiences, showcase reform pathways and identify practical solutions for delivering sustainable and investable water and sanitation services.
Strategic partners include the World Health Organization (WHO), the Global Water Partnership (GWP), the International Water Association (IWA), Sanitation and Water for All (SWA), UNICEF and WaterAid.
