The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) supported Sustainability Week 2026, organized by CentraRSE, as part of its efforts to promote financial solutions for development, according to a press release. As part of this initiative, the institution participated in the Sustainable Investment and Finance Summit, one of the main events on the agenda. The activities took place in Guatemala City on August 7, 2026. Through this engagement, CABEI reinforced its role in advancing sustainable finance across the region.

The Summit brought together financial institutions, international organizations, companies, and other stakeholders. It coincided with the 19th Meeting of the Sustainable Finance Advisory Council (CCFS), a platform active since 2021. The CCFS has driven initiatives such as the Protocol and Guatemala’s Voluntary Sustainable Finance Taxonomy. These frameworks aim to strengthen the market and expand the mobilization of resources toward responsible projects.

During the Summit, Otto Gutiérrez Kikut, the country manager for CABEI in Guatemala, moderated the forum “Enabling the Issuance of Thematic Bonds in Guatemala”. The forum featured Juan Carlos Pensamiento of the National Stock Exchange (BVN) and Randall Hooker, Senior Sustainable Finance Officer for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). The discussion addressed the conditions necessary to expand the use of these financial instruments. Panelists also examined their potential to channel capital toward initiatives that generate environmental and social benefits.

CABEI’s country manager also joined a high-level discussion on opportunities to strengthen sustainable finance and capital mobilization in Guatemala. He was accompanied by Ramiro Ortiz, executive vice president of Grupo Promerica, and Sean Kidney, CEO and co-founder of the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI). The exchange was moderated by Juan Pablo Morataya, executive director of CentraRSE. Participants explored pathways for advancing sustainable finance mechanisms in the country.

Through its participation in these forums, CABEI strengthens its role as a promoter of innovative financial solutions and strategic partnerships. The Bank continues to support the mobilization of resources for projects that foster resilience, competitiveness, and development in its member countries. Its engagement in Sustainability Week 2026 reflects a sustained commitment to the region’s sustainable finance agenda.
