The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has approved an investment of up to US$34 million for the Lavalle Port Project in the province of Corrientes, Argentina, according to a press release. The initiative will benefit more than 271,000 people and nearly 4,000 businesses in the Río Santa Lucía Microregion. Its impact will extend to more than 940,000 residents in the rest of the province. The financing aims to boost economic activity and regional competitiveness. It also seeks to strengthen the connection between regional production and national and international markets.

The project is located in the Río Santa Lucía Microregion, in the province of Corrientes. It responds to the need to expand freight transport capacity in the region. The initiative is set to create new opportunities for the region’s manufacturing and logistics sectors. CABEI is financing the initiative as part of its role in Argentina. The announcement was made on September 15, 2026, in Santa Marta.

The project involves the construction of the first phase of a multipurpose port on the Paraná River. It features a 140-meter-long pier for the operation of barges and river vessels. The plan also includes 3,360 m² of port and auxiliary infrastructure. In addition, 1.6 kilometers of new road accesses will be built. These works form the core components of the first phase.

The new port will facilitate the transport of goods via the Paraná-Paraguay Waterway. This will particularly benefit the rice and forestry production chains. The project is expected to create 100 temporary direct jobs during its implementation phase. It will also generate 25 permanent direct jobs during its operational phase. These outcomes are expected to contribute to the region’s economic development.

Through this transaction, CABEI reaffirms its commitment as a strategic partner for sustainable development in Argentina. The Bank promotes investments that strengthen productive infrastructure. It also seeks to create new opportunities in the countries where it operates. The Lavalle Port Project reflects this approach in the Corrientes region. The initiative consolidates CABEI’s role in supporting logistics infrastructure in Argentina.
