The Beijing based Global Environmental Institute (GEI) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in July to jointly promote low carbon-development and renewable energy in Cambodia.

GEI and GGGI will work together to provide a series of trainings on renewable energy and low carbon energy technologies to policymakers and energy professionals, drawing on China’s expertise and experience in this sector. GGGI and GEI will also work together to pilot the application of these technologies in Cambodia and work with Cambodian government and cities to attract clean energy investments. The partnership will be guided by the government’s “Sustainable City Strategic Plan” which is due to be released soon.

Directors of both organizations signed the MoU in July 2018 owing to their organizations’ common objectives to promote sustainable development in developing countries.

GEI is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Beijing, China. GEI was founded with the aim of securing sustainable development within the country’s borders and abroad. GEI works alongside key policymakers, businesses, scientists, civil society leaders and local communities to foster dialogue and innovative solutions to protect the environment and enhance economic opportunity within China as well as in Southeast Asia and Africa.

In Cambodia, GGGI is currently working with the Royal Government to mainstream green growth into national development plans, promote green urban development and green Cambodian industries.
