With an investment of 152.6 million lempiras, Honduras’ Debt Conversion Program with Spain, managed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), inaugurated the project entitled “Technological Strengthening of the National University of Agriculture to Develop Inclusive and Modern Higher Education (UNA FOTESIM)”, located in the city of Catacamas, department of Olancho, Honduras.

The new project will strengthen the clean energy system through the construction of a photovoltaic solar plant. In addition, the project included the installation of biodigesters, construction and equipment of physics, hydraulics, animal robotics and biotechnology laboratories, modernization of the pig breeding center, a bilingual kindergarten, the implementation of a web platform, video conferencing, and multimedia classrooms.

By strengthening and revamping this important university, the teaching-learning, production, research and extension processes are streamlined, directly benefiting 4,500 people annually, including students, teachers, employees of the different areas of this university, their children, farmers, and microentrepreneurs.

The actions executed through this program are aligned with the development policies of the Government of Honduras and the Kingdom of Spain, as well as with the Social Development axis of the CABEI 2015-2019 Institutional Strategy, which aims to contribute to the development of human capital.
