During his mission to Mexico, LI Yong, the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), has participated in celebrations of the one-hundredth anniversary of the founding of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of Mexico (CONCAMIN).

During his keynote speech about industry of the future and the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Li highlighted the long and successful history of collaboration between Mexico and UNIDO, and pointed out that the 2030 Agenda is an outstanding opportunity for the country to retake the path of inclusive and sustainable industrial development, as well as its leadership in Latin America in this sector.
He told the audience, “UNIDO stands ready to support your efforts towards unleashing the power of the Fourth Industrial Revolution for achieving inclusive and sustainable industrial development.”
During a meeting with Francisco Cervantes Díaz, President of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of Mexico, the UNIDO Director-General signed a joint declaration committing the two organizations to work together on complex development challenges by applying international knowledge, experience, methodologies, and services provided by UNIDO.
One of the main achievements of the recent collaboration is the phase-out of the use and production of substances that deplete the ozone layer, making Mexico one of the leading countries for compliance with the Montreal Protocol. Mexico has contributed to the elimination of 60% of ozone-depleting substances in Latin America and 12% worldwide.
