The Australian Government has committed $10.25 million to support the Indonesian Government and humanitarian partners respond to the needs of communities impacted by the Earthquake and Tsunami.
This assistance includes:
- $2 million for Australian NGOs to provide 80,000 people with access to shelter, sanitation and clean water through local partners.
- $500,000 to the Indonesian Red Cross for food and essential relief items such as blankets and tarpaulins and a further $500,000 for the Australian Red Cross.
- Over $400,000 of Australian Government humanitarian relief supplies and logistics support to provide 7,800 people with essential relief items such as tarpaulins and tools to build shelter, to ensure people have safe water, and to restore electricity.
- Assistance through the United Nations Population Fund to provide 8,130 women and girls with supplies to meet hygiene and reproductive health needs.
On 6 October the Foreign Minister announced $4.5 million for humanitarian supplies, health and logistical assistance to meet the immediate needs of those affected and assist with recovery efforts. Australia will continue to work with the Indonesian Government and partners to identify the needs of affected populations.
The Australia Defence Force is supporting the Indonesian Government in their response efforts, including providing vital airlift capacity for moving humanitarian supplies. Two Australian Defence Force aircraft have delivered Australian relief supplies in Balikpapan, Indonesia. Relief items include tarpaulins and tools to build a shelter. Some of these supplies have now been distributed in Palu by the Red Cross. More supplies will be delivered in the coming days and will provide shelter and access to clean water.
