The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the National Aid Fund (NAF), under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Development, are signing an agreement at the core of the Government’s plan to expand cash assistance to reach more Jordanians.
NAF, the main social assistance provider in the Kingdom, has distributed JD 106 million in financial assistance to vulnerable Jordanian families in 2018. This year, NAF will be expanded to reach more Jordanians with technical support from WFP.
WFP has global experience in digitizing cash delivery systems through innovative technologies. Some of these solutions have been implemented in Jordan to support vulnerable Jordanian and Syrian refugee communities. WFP will support NAF with a range of improvements including digitizing its payment system and upgrading its feedback mechanism.
“We highly value our partnership with NAF,” said Sarah Gordon-Gibson, WFP Country Director and Representative in Jordan. “It’s an important part of our commitment to help the Government address the needs of the most vulnerable and food insecure Jordanians through social protection.”
Since 1964, WFP has played a pivotal role in supporting national efforts to reduce hunger and poverty in Jordan. To date, WFP has carried out 50 development projects and emergency operations in partnership with the Government of Jordan and local institutions, making a tangible difference in the lives of millions across the Kingdom.
