In 2016, about 40% of the country’s population was food insecure due to drought. To combat the disaster, the World Bank Group and FAO assisted more than 2.1 million drought-affected rural Somalis—about 360,000 families—with livelihood support through cash-for-work programs.

It helped families to purchase food while protecting and restoring agricultural productivity and production.
