Webinar

Purchasing is a core health financing function that refers to the allocation of funds to public and private health care providers for the services they provide.

The WHO Health Financing Department, in collaboration with partner speakers, offers a webinar series on strategic purchasing to foster conceptual clarity, peer exchange, and peer learning. Key concepts and policy instruments will be explored together with country examples.

The session will focus on what strategic purchasing is, why is it important, what are key areas, and which policy instruments purchasers can use to make efficient use of funds and contribute to UHC objectives.

Egypt will serve as a country example to illustrate the changes in purchasing arrangements introduced by the Universal Health Insurance Law in 2019. Moreover, the role of purchasing during a pandemic will be explored and key purchasing actions to support the COVID-19 response will be presented.
