project goal
In the first half of 2024, the Latin America Committee Salzburg will host the 15th Latin America Film Festival at DAS KINO in Salzburg and in cinemas in 5 other federal states (Vienna, Linz, St. Pölten, Baden, Radstadt, Klagenfurt, Graz). The 14-day event provides an overview of current filmmaking in Latin America. Under the aspect of 'Latin America on the move', current economic, political, social and cultural developments in some Latin American countries are examined and discussed through the medium of film (fiction and documentaries).
expected results
- The film screenings and discussion events directly reach at least 9,200 visitors.
- Presentation of 20-25 films in approx. 80-90 screenings on 14 festival days in Salzburg at DAS KINO.
- Another 50 film screenings in Vienna, Lower Austria, Linz, Klagenfurt, Graz and - with a mobile projector - in 5 other communities.
- The film screenings are supplemented by audience discussions with experts and directors as well as an accompanying program of discussions, information and book tables, concerts and radio broadcasts on the Freie Radio Salzburg (Radiofabrik) and a multiplier workshop.
- Introduction of a new youth section of the festival, including a youth jury and special offers for schools and young people.
- A broader public is reached through media reporting.

Cooperation partners include cinemas, educational institutions, university institutes, technical colleges, ÖH, media and groups active in development policy in Salzburg.
In addition to DAS KINO as the main partner, there are collaborations with cinema operators in Austria, especially in Vienna (Filmcasino), Linz (Moviemento), St. Pölten and Baden (Cinema Paradiso), Radstadt (Kino im Turm), Klagenfurt (Wulfenia Kino) and the Oval stage in Europark.
Measures
The project activities include:
- Film viewing and selection, with special consideration of gender aspects and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Implementation of the 14-day film festival in Salzburg in cooperation with partners and dialogue groups with a supporting program and workshop: presentation of 20 - 25 films in DAS KINO, invitation of 4-5 directors and experts for discussions. Presentation of 2 - 3 films in the 'Oval' (stage in Europark).
- Own focus on youth participation (through film selection, a workshop 'Festival makes schools', promotion of school performances, a jury of young people and a prize for the best film in this category).
- Presentation of a film in four - five communities outside the city of Salzburg between June and September 2024 (preferably open-air) in order to reach new audiences.
- Presentation of a film in a youth center in the city of Salzburg.
- Approximately 2/3 of the program is taken over by the Filmcasino Vienna.
- Presentation of 4 – 6 films each in cinemas in Linz, St. Pölten, Baden, Radstadt, Klagenfurt, Graz.
- Press and public relations work, advertising measures.
background information
The project is funded with a total project volume of EUR 133,000 in the amount of EUR 58,000 (43.61% of the total costs).

Combating poverty, ensuring peace and preserving the environment: These are the three major concerns of the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), the operational unit of the Austrian Development Cooperation.
