In the face of a downturn in the global diamond market and associated fiscal pressures, the government is prioritizing economic diversification and structural reforms to attract investment in services, manufacturing, tourism, renewable energy and digital infrastructure. Significant public investments and plans under the National Development Plan and Botswana Economic Transformation Program aim to upgrade transport, digital networks, and utility systems while expanding renewable energy capacity. However, implementation of infrastructure projects faces challenges including efficiency and planning constraints, underscoring the need for improved governance to ensure public investment translates into sustained inclusive growth.
