Description

GIZ has been working in the Caribbean for more than 30 years. The country office in the Dominican Republic primarily manages transnational programmes with regional partners including the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM), cooperation with Haiti and cross-border measures involving the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

The Caribbean is one of the regions worst hit by climate change. GIZ is supporting the efforts of Caribbean states to cope with the following challenges within the scope of several projects:

  • Adapting to climate change
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • Sustainable use of natural resources and renewable energy
  • Natural resource conservation
  • Coastal zone management.

In addition, GIZ is involved in fighting HIV/AIDS and supporting the implementation of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) in the Caribbean. Reconstruction in Haiti in the wake of the 2010 earthquake will also continue to receive support until the end of 2013 in the form of transitional development assistance.
