Description
The Directorate-General for Competition (DG COMP) is responsible for the EU competition strategy and implementing EU competition regulations in collaboration with national competition agencies. The department is responsible for ensuring EU markets operate better by ensuring that all companies compete equally and fairly based on their merits. DG COMP’s policy areas include topics such as antitrust, mergers, liberalization, state aids, and international cooperation.
The Commission mobilizes competition policy tools and market expertise to contribute to the Union's jobs, growth, and investment plans including areas such as the single digital market, energy union, financial services, industrial policy, and the fight against tax evasion. Additionally, the Directorate provides states assistance ensuring that government interventions do not distort competition inside the EU by favoring one firm or a subset of enterprises over others.
