Description

The attributions of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights are initially set by Decree No. 2010-3152 of 1 December 2010, on the organization of the Ministry of Justice.

Develop and implement judicial policy
Develop draft texts relevant to the course of justice and give its opinion on all draft laws and regulatory texts submitted to it by other departments
Develop draft international conventions in judicial matters and participate in their negotiation
Organize and inspect judicial public services by ensuring their proper functioning, undertake all actions necessary for their improvement and promotion and control the bodies under its supervision
To ensure the control of the activities of the judicial profession and the auxiliaries of justice;
To issue certificates of nationality, to elaborate projects and texts relating to naturalization or loss of Tunisian nationality and to coordinate the activity of the control on the services of the civil status
Instruct requests for pardon, parole, rehabilitation and revision

Following the attachment of the penitentiary and reeducation institutions and the human rights sector to the Ministry of Justice, its powers have been supplemented as follows:

Ensure the execution of the main and additional sentences pronounced by the courts.

Promote human rights in their different aspects and ensure that they are further strengthened by:

- the presentation of proposals likely to contribute to the development of legislation in this field,

- cooperation with public bodies responsible for human rights,

- taking all initiatives that promote and anchor the culture of human rights in society,

- monitoring the activities of international organizations in this area.
