The current supply of electrical energy in Burundi is extremely limited (around 35MW of effective supply). It is facing a demand which is only increasing with the extension of the capital and the interior urban centers. Industry experts estimate that current demand is over 70 MW. Compared with the current total supply, only 50% of the demand is satisfied. According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines, this demand will increase to 92 MW in 2018 to reach a peak of 192 MW by 20253.
