Description

The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) was established in 2008 as the largest civilian mission within the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union. EULEX's overall purpose is to support the essential rule of law institutions in Kosovo as it strives for increased effectiveness, sustainability, multi-ethnicity and accountability. As a result of their evolution, institutions should become free of political interference and conform to international human rights standards and best European practices and EULEX Kosovo's mandate is carried out through the monitoring and operations pillars to keep track of specific cases and trials in the Kosovo court system as well as assisting the Kosovo Correctional Service in the formation of a cohesive and professional senior management team.
