The Agency is the national park management organization. In this capacity, she is responsible for:
- implement the national policy for the protection of natural resources and ecological processes as well as the enhancement of the natural and cultural heritage of national parks, taking into account the balance and stability of ecosystems;
- put in place the means and procedures for the protection of natural habitats and wildlife, in particular species of rare or endangered fauna and flora, in situ and ex situ;
provide technical support for its implementation;
- conclude concession agreements by tender following advice from the managing authority of the park concerned and consultation of local communities;
- prepare any strategic document related to the management of parks and the conservation of biological diversity;
- coordinate the activities of scientific, technical and nature conservation organizations whose programs are related to national parks;
- promote and regulate ecotourism activities in national parks;
- plan and ensure the ongoing training of personnel responsible for the management of national parks and their natural resources;
- centralize, process and disseminate national park information for national monitoring of park conservation indicators;
- facilitate local initiatives for the conservation of biological diversity;
- Promote general information, education and communication about national parks;
- promote all forms of participatory management of national parks and conservation of natural resources;
- seek and secure funding for national parks;
- ensure, in all the national parks, the management of the property assets as well as the exercise of the administrative police and judicial police.
