Description

The Municipality of Ulaanbaatar, more commonly referred to as the City Municipality of Ulaanbaatar, is the local government body in charge of the administration of Mongolia's capital city, Ulaanbaatar.

Ulaanbaatar, originally Orgoo, was established in 1639 as a Yurt Monastery on Lake Shireet Tsagaan Nuur, which has since become known as Ovorkhangai, approximately 250 kilometers from today's location of the city. In 1778, it made its permanent home near the convergence of the Selbe and Tuul Rivers and beneath the Bogd Khan Uul, which was also on the path of caravans from Beijing to Kyakhta at the time. The city has been Mongolia's political, administrative, and cultural hub since the 19th century.

The Municipality of Ulaanbaatar is in charge of several administrative responsibilities and services in the city. To maintain the city's orderly expansion and development, the municipality is active in urban planning and development initiatives.

Its services include trash management, water distribution, sanitation, public transportation, and street maintenance. Furthermore, to encourage arts, culture, and sports in the city, the municipality assists cultural organizations and recreational facilities.
