Description
One-fourth of total output (Gross Domestic Product-GDP) and 45% total employment is generated by agriculture 62% of the country population living in rural areas is directly or indirectly linked with agriculture for their livelihood.
Major thrust of the Agriculture Department will be:
Modernization of agriculture research.
Advancement of mechanized agriculture.
Strong market information system.
Improved agriculture extension service.
Water Management
Despite resource constraints, insufficient technical manpower, and inadequate inputs, including irrigation water, Sindh province has not legged behind the other provinces in yields per hectare. In almost all major crops yield is either higher or very near to more developed province Punjab, which has proportionately more resources.
POTENTIAL SOURCES OF FUTURE GROWTH OF AGRICULTURE & RURAL ECONOMY
Reduce Post Harvest losses of fruits and vegetables.
Potential for diversification of crops, medicinal & industrial crops, floriculture.
Promotion of low delta crops specially in arid areas
