Twenty-five years ago, the United States was one of the first nations to recognize Uzbekistan as an independent country after it ceased to be a constituent republic of the Soviet Union. Since then, the United States and Uzbekistan have collaborated on a wide range of important country and societal concerns including the rule of law, security, civil society, education and health care.
The United States Embassy in Tashkent is dedicated to collaborating with Uzbekistan in these and other fields. Diplomatic ties were established in 1992 when President George H.W. Bush issued a press statement announcing the decision to open the American Embassy in Tashkent.
