FENPS: ( Formal Education Network ) is a non-profit and non-political organization registered in Somalia. FENPS was established in Somalia in 2003 to support community education through the renovation of schools and building new ones for the sake of assisting needy children specially those from internally displaced people and impoverished families; distributing education supplies and recreational materials to learners, creating income generation for low-income families and youth through training skills.
Since being established in 2003, FENPS implemented different humanitarian and development programmes. The name of Formal Education Network for Private Schools (FENPS) emerged in a context when all government services such as schools and healthcare centers collapsed in Somalia in 1991. FENPS started to support existing private schools to advocate for education and give affordable learning and teaching opportunities to the vulnerable children, trained teachers in those schools and established free of charge temporary learning schools for out of school internally displaced children to improve quality and access to education in Somalia in order to ease burdens on the families in the sides of receiving education and essential services.
The work of FENPS advances the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in particular, SDG 4 (quality education). It also significantly impacts on SDG 5 (gender equality) and SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth).
